The excitement of watercolor...
watching the pigments explode and collide into form…the dance of a brush…the change from a flat paper surface into a living dimension, this is my reward. From the erratic glacial surroundings of Lake Tahoe, to a lovely Sierra spring day– all this and more contribute to my passion for painting watercolors.
Sometimes I paint from photographs taken of Sierra visits and surrounding areas, sometimes I prefer to paint “plein air” closer to home. I thrill to capture light and shade as I paint and am excited about my recent discovery of iridescent pigments and the richness of quinacridone colors. Using these results in a much more vibrant, color-rich painting, showing a bit of transparency as well as an opaque quality, which contributes to the intensity of my floral work. As I continue to study botanical species, conifers, and rock formations, I have recently discovered the wonder of wildlife painting and am currently studying this subject matter.
My interests are becoming more diversified as my love of painting grows. I attend workshops whenever and wherever I can. I hope you, the viewer, enjoy my visions as much as I love painting them.
